On the night of race day 3, while we were all relaxing at the hotel, we received some bad news. Due to an outbreak of COVID among the race staff, the challenge is cancelled. The team got to work figuring out a plan: we will drive to Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday, and then hope to Pasadena, CA on Thursday. We are wearing masks and testing every morning, and have a plan in place to separate cars and hotel rooms should anyone test positive. They announced the winners Wednesday morning before we left, and the Poly Solar Car Team placed second in the classic division. We drove a total of over 200 miles, and placed in the top half of the 20 teams registered across all other divisions (advanced classic, advanced, and electric solar-powered vehicle). The team is disappointed that the race will not go on after all of the hard work we did over the past two years for this, but we understand that for everyone's safety the race cannot go on
